The O2 Garden has it's own cold storage section, where there is an inventory of seeds, fertilizer, and all that would be needed to get the hydroponics started up again. As some of the research specimens broke out during the long period the garden went without supervisor, all of the grown crop is eaten or destroyed, and a good amount of the inventory was lost, but there is a decent stock remaining. If a crewmate logs into the network console at one of the desks in the O2 Garden (all crew have access), Ripley has made an inventory list of what remains, and what values/uses the seeds have. (This, however, is written OOCly, not ICly, but the same information would be available)
NUTRITIONAL VALUE;
SPINACH; Your standard, run of the mill, Earth Spinach. Leafy and green, a fine source of protein and fiber, good for metabolism, blood pressure, eyesight, and punishing children who hate veggies. Vaguely makes one feel like a bunny rabbit.
POTATOES; Standard Earth potatoes. Starchy and delicious. Boil them, mash them, stick them in a stew. Po-ta-toes, po-ta-toes.
SOYBEANS; Standard Earth soybeans. Fat-free soybean meal is a significant and cheap source of protein for animal feeds and many packaged meals.
FENNELBERRY; An offworld plant, mostly grow for flavor. High in anti-oxidants and low on calories. Tastes like Pepsi.
HIGHLAND POPCORN; An offworld plant brought from a mountainous colony. It has a fancier scientific name, but we just call it popcorn plant, because it's basically popcorn. High in fiber, good for snacking, awesome with seasoning salts (which we don't have, oops)
AZOLLA FERN; An offworld plant, high in potassium. The taste is fruity, yet creamy, like a banana, almost, but more citrusy.
STRADUSI SNAPWEED; A hostile species of plant harvested from the mountainous colony planet, Stradus. While somewhat cute, terms "Lil Biters" by the Kostka IV's former crew, they are pests and often have to be rounded up and relocated or exterminated when they invade too close to settlements. These little plants can be cooked like meat and eaten, but they don't taste particularly good.
MEDICINAL VALUE;
YELLOW MILFOIL; An offworld plant. Three-leafed, sometimes with yellow flowers, and relatively easy to care for. It yields aspirin-like effects - pain relief, fever reducing, anti-inflammatory.
NEEMAN WINEGOURD; An offworld plant. These plant grow wide, pitcher-like gourds about the size of a softball that gradually fill with nectar secreted from inside of the pouch. Medicinally, the nectar can provide a nice anesthetic, but past crew did discover ways to abuse the substance as a drug or ferment into a drink, like alcohol. Ripley only records the rumor of it, now how to do it.
NIGHTVARROW; A lovely little offworld plant. It works extremely well as a sleep-aid, but must be given in appropriate doses, as too high of a dose can lead to coma or death.
PENDULIAN BITTERCRESS; These are one of the offworld, hostile specimens that escaped containment and overtook the O2 Garden while the ship was unmanned for a period of time. These tall vines spit acid and snatch at the air. They are extremely toxic to eat, but they can be used as an anti-fungal. One would assume a poison could be produced as well, but the Kostka botanical crew made no notes on the topic.
